Christmas is coming and the geese are getting fat....

With the Christmas season well underway, my thought are turning to roast dinners, strong liquer and walking on a grey, blustery beach. Most of all I'm looking forward to december 26th.
This is is the date when the Wren Boy's take over Dingle town in west Kerry and a day of mayhem and mischief with the ritual dating back to pagan times.
See the link attached.

The Art of Shadows

I've have had an interest in puppetry for years now from traditional Turkish shadow theatre and developments in Greece with the Kharaghiozis narratives, which developed around the time of the first industrial revolution in Greece and took on the characteristics of the marginalized urban population to the contemporary puppet play of Nathalie Djurberg.

After reading Tanizaki's novel In Praise of Shadows a beautiful essay on aesthetics and the subtlety and nuances of shadows, I became interested in shadow puppetry.

I recently took part in a shadow workshop which culminated in a performance on The Puppetry Barge in London's Little Venice.
Here are some of the pics from that evening...
